Who should use We Submit?

We Submit(TM) is targeted to professional writers ONLY (i.e., writing is your profession, listed on your tax return; you teach writing; you hold an advanced degree (MA, MFA, PhD) in writing; and/or you perform or otherwise receive monetary compensation for your writing ability). Likely you already have publications, and if not, publishing is the next step in your writing career.

Who should NOT use We Submit?

If you are just getting started with writing, wesubmit.org is NOT the right forum for you (i.e., you write as a hobby; you have not studied writing at university level; or you have never been engaged in the larger writing industry or community). We are also NOT a publishing venue or a journal. We don't read your work or give feedback in any way.

Who are you and why are you doing this?

We're professional writers who believe in the automation of paperwork so we can devote our time to more enjoyable things -- like writing. We believe other writers would appreciate the same. Click here for more information about us.

How does it REALLY work? Give me the long version.

Once you fill out the online form and submit payment, we receive your submission. We then select journals for your work according to your preferences. For each submission, your work is sent to ten (10) journals within your selected tier who accept simultaneous submissions. Print submissions are handled by a professional mailing service. SASE included (obviously). A confirmation email is sent to you within 24 - 48 business hours (that would be 3 - 5 business days, though often sooner), along with a report showing when and where your work was sent. Want even more detail? Click on our very snazzy PowerPoint at the top of this page.

What should my file consist of?

For single submissions, 3 to 5 poems or one prose piece (no more than 25 pages total). See Our Services page for exact details.

Why is this process so easy?

We've streamlined the submission process to make it a quick, no-fuss, no-muss process for you.

How is my work delivered to the venue?

Most of the time, via the journal's electronic submissions manager. Many venues only allow hard-copy printed submissions, however; your poems and standard cover letter will be sent via professional mailing service in such cases. Rarely (generally with 1 in 10 submissions), your submission is sent via email.

How do I know what my submission looks like?

You will receive a .PDF file in your confirmation email that is identical to what the journal receives. We also include a list of the journals your work was submitted to. Pagination, headers and footers in your file are customized to individual journal guidelines. If you would like to view a sample submission and cover letter, email us: wesubmitonline(at)gmail.com (replace 'at' with @). Type "Sample Request" in the subject line. Or, send a request via our contact page. We'll get back to you within 24-48 business hours.

How do you handle journal responses?

Actually, we don't. The responses will be sent directly to you, either to the email address you provided or postal mail via SASE. If by chance they send email replies to us, we will forward the message to you.  It is your responsibility to inform the other journals immediately and withdraw your submission once you receive an acceptance. Remember, it's your reputation at stake.

Can you guarantee acceptance?

Absolutely not. Our only guarantee is that your work will meet the specific guidelines and deadlines for the journals we submit to on your behalf. If you are not satisfied with the service, we offer a 100% refund.

How do you keep track of deadlines and submission periods?

We have developed an extensive internal database (similar to others available online) and update it daily with information on guidelines, deadlines and contact information.

Can you explain the tier situation?

General prestige in the industry is the principal ranking criterion.

  • Tier 1 Example: Poetry, Ploughshares, The New Yorker, etc.
  • Tier 2 Example: Alaska Quarterly Review, Black Warrior Review, Memoir (and), etc.
  • Tier 3 Example: Rattle, Fugue, The Southern Review, etc.
  • Online Example: 42Opus, Blackbird, 2River, etc.

How do I know what tier to choose?

This service is geared toward professional writers who know their work and its audience. They already tend to have publications, MFA degrees and/or are involved in the industry. If you don't know what tier your work belongs in or wants to aim at, we suggest trolling the Internet and library for journals published by universities, small presses and online to see where your work fits. For a detailed explanation of the different tiers, go through our PowerPoint. Or, you can click here for helpful links.

What if I already know which journals I want to submit to?

We suggest doing it yourself. Our service is for writers who want to get their work sent out in bulk in order to improve chances of acceptance.

What if I made a mistake in spelling or page count? Can I recall my submission?

Unfortunately, no. Please consider this service as nearly the same as submitting to journals. Once it's sent, it's sent. No do-overs. Stories/essays/poems/bios over the allotted amount will be truncated at the stated guideline. Be sure it's correct before you submit the form.

Can you explain your pricing?

Our form takes about five minutes to fill out. Formatting your document shouldn't take more than five minutes either.  And the main value: you don't have to spend hours sifting through journals, formatting each submission according to individual guidelines, hunting for that book of stamps that fell behind your desk or running out to buy a new ink cartridge. We do all that for you. We believe our service is fairly priced for the preservation of your time and resources. And, PayPal is secure and convenient.

Is it really worth the money?

In short, yes!  Aside from exposing your work to a wider audience, we don't need to tell you that publication is an important part of a writer's career. Our customers tell us that the publications they've garnered via WeSubmitTM have helped them advance their career by bolstering their CVs, a vital step helping them to get prestigious fellowships, teaching jobs and literary performance work.  They value our easy-to-use service as an investment which pays near-term and long-term dividends.

Do people really get published using your service?

Our customers have an average acceptance rate of 40%. We think that's pretty darn good.

I want to submit my work to contests. Do you do that too?

We are developing the website for contest submission capability and enhanced submission features. Please contact us and let us know you're interested.

Thanks for reading. Now go write something, so we can submit it for you. :)
